Feedback to Reporters

A new computer programme called "Sentinel" was introduced by the MHRA in May 2005 to expedite the processing of data and allow for faster detection of any possible problems with medicines. As a result of the implementation of Sentinel, YCC Scotland no longer received Yellow Card reports directly.

Therefore, upon receipt of a paper Yellow Card, the Yellow Card is scanned into Sentinel and a letter of acknowledgement is issued to the reporter, quoting a unique reference number specific to the Yellow Card report unless follow-up information is required. Yellow Cards submitted electronically will be acknowledged by Email in a similar manner. In the case where follow-up information is required, YCC Scotland may contact you on behalf of the MHRA to clarify details of the reaction or to obtain further information on the outcome of a reaction.

Information about other reports associated with a particular medicine can be found in Drug Analysis Printouts (DAPs) prepared by the MHRA. Follow the link to access Drug Analysis Printouts.

Because of the way adverse drug reactions are reported in the United Kingdom such reports cannot be used as a means of assessing the number of adverse reactions that have occurred. It will give you some information about the relative numbers occurring in different body systems and the frequency of other reports which have been made that are similar to the report you submitted. The MHRA distribute a guidance note on interpretation of these reports which can be downloaded from this site.

Download DAP Guidance Sheet from here (PDF format ).
