Welcome to Yellow Card Centre Scotland

This site will give you information about the personnel working in the Centre, as well as its main aim, which is to increase and improve the quality of adverse drug reactions (ADR) reporting in Scotland using the Yellow Card Scheme. Through its network of medicines information services throughout Scotland, YCC Scotland aims to provide local contact points to assist reporters when they are uncertain about the correct steps to take in this process.

MHRA’s Definition of an Adverse Drug Reaction

An adverse drug reaction (ADR) is a response to a medicinal product which is noxious and unintended. This includes adverse reactions which arise from:

• use of a medicinal product within the terms of the marketing authorisation
• use outside the terms of the marketing authorisation, including overdose, misuse, abuse, and medication errors
• occupational exposure

The Yellow Card Scheme

The Yellow Card Scheme is run by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), a UK government body. The MHRA’s principal aim is to protect the public’s health, by making sure that medicines and medical devices work properly and are acceptably safe. Since 1964, information on suspected side effects has been collected from reports made voluntarily by healthcare professionals and, from 2008, also by patients.

You can access more information on the Yellow Card Scheme by visiting the Information page of the website.
